IT & Cybersecurity
CompTIA® Server+Server+ Certified IT Professional
CompTIA Server+ is the vendor-neutral server administration certification, current version SK0-005 (launched 2021 and still active). It covers server hardware, virtualization, storage, networking, security, and disaster recovery for on-prem and hybrid server environments. Four domains span server architecture, server administration, server security and disaster recovery, and troubleshooting. CompTIA recommends A+ certification or equivalent knowledge plus two years of hands-on experience in a server environment, and the exam carries both multiple-choice and performance-based questions, including hands-on simulations of common server admin tasks.

Who it’s for
Built for the people taking this exam.
Server administrators, data center technicians, and A+ holders moving into infrastructure roles. Particularly relevant for federal contractors and MSPs that manage mixed Windows/Linux server fleets and need a vendor-neutral credential that covers both stacks plus virtualization and disaster recovery.
Why it matters in 2026
The career signal.
Server+ is on the DoD 8140 approved list for CSSP Infrastructure Support roles and is one of the few vendor-neutral credentials accepted for server admin roles at federal contractors. It fills a real resume gap between A+ and Linux+/Windows Server certifications, and hiring managers at MSPs treat it as proof of disaster recovery, virtualization, and storage competence. Unlike vendor certs, it transfers across employers and is not tied to a single OS, which makes it durable as IT shops migrate between platforms.
Sample question
What a CompTIA® Server+ question looks like.
In a storage area network (SAN), the interconnected collection of HBAs, Fibre Channel switches, and storage devices forms a specific type of topology. What is this topology called?
Why: A SAN is divided into zones, and devices within the same zone can communicate with each other. The full collection of these zones, connected via routers and switches, is referred to as the SAN fabric.
