PNCB CPNP-PC®Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care

The Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Primary Care (CPNP-PC) credential is issued by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) for nurse practitioners providing well-child and primary-care pediatric services. The current blueprint (effective October 2023) is based on the most recent PNCB Job Task Analysis. CPNP-PC is the scope-correct credential for outpatient/clinic pediatric NPs and is distinct from the acute-care CPNP-AC.

What’s tested

Key topics on the PNCB CPNP-PC® exam.

The Cert Climb question bank is mapped to every domain on the official PNCB CPNP-PC® exam blueprint, so what you study is what the test asks.

Who it’s for

Built for the people taking this exam.

Pediatric NPs practicing in primary-care pediatric clinics, school-based health centers, retail/urgent-care pediatric services, and pediatric subspecialty outpatient offices. Choose CPNP-PC over the family-NP (FNP) credential if your role is exclusively pediatric — it carries narrower but deeper recognition in pediatric employer pipelines.

Why it matters in 2026

The career signal.

Under the APRN Consensus Model, state boards license NPs by both population and care focus, and most pediatric primary-care jobs explicitly require CPNP-PC rather than a generalist FNP credential. Pediatric NP fill-rates in primary care lag pediatrician supply in many states, so CPNP-PC holders see strong placement — particularly in rural and HRSA-designated shortage areas where loan-repayment programs target the credential.
