ACSM-EP®Certified Exercise Physiologist®
The ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) is the bachelor's-level credential from the American College of Sports Medicine for working with apparently healthy clients and those with medically-controlled conditions. The exam contains 150 multiple-choice questions (120 scored) across four performance domains. It sits between the entry-level ACSM-CPT and the master's-level ACSM-CEP — broader scope than a personal trainer, but non-clinical.

Who it’s for
Built for the people taking this exam.
Exercise science graduates working in corporate wellness, university recreation, community health, and medically-supervised fitness programs that need someone above CPT scope but who isn't running clinical rehab. Often the credential of choice for kinesiology majors entering the workforce.
Why it matters in 2026
The career signal.
ACSM-EP is the credential many bachelor's-degree exercise science graduates use as a stepping stone to the master's-level ACSM-CEP. It's recognized for medically-controlled population work (pre-diabetes, controlled hypertension, weight management) that a standard CPT scope doesn't cover, and is listed on DoD COOL for tactical exercise physiologist roles.
